What Have You Set Your Affections upon?
Good morning Saints
I often hear people say that they are in love with this person, or that they love their car or house. I say to myself, that this is such a vain way to portray love on something that is just tangible but cannot reciprocate that love back to you, with the exception of the person. The things that we often cast our affections on have no eternal value. False love is temporal and you cannot take it with you! It’s going to break down, disappoint you, and eventually die out. What means so much to you that it captures your every thought of the day and night? Is there anything or anyone in the earth that should demand our attention as such to become idolatry or worship? Many people will cuss you out, hit you, or even kill you for something that they can replace with a monetary value, but will look the other way when someone is in need of encouragement. Those Jordan’s are made by the millions and there are factories that still manufacture Infiniti brand vehicles. Let us bring this into perspective once more. There is a misunderstanding when this takes place in society as well as in the Christian church. What is love truly to you? Are you defining it by your possessions that you say GOD has given you, because He loves you and you met His demands? Or is it because you feel all warm and toasty inside when this person or thing comes around? I believe this may be labeled, “puppy love” or “infatuation” at its best. You can be infatuated with a person or thing, if you have a connection with it, but that does not constitute what love is! Also just because you have several plots of lands, some G-6’s, and all the members in the world that agree with your concepts, does not mean that this is GOD loving you. Often the things that we love (esteem highly) are an abomination to GOD. The reason being is that they take away the attention away from whom it is truly to be cast upon. Let’s get our perspectives in check, and we can do that by the Word of GOD! When the bible passage of scripture is read in John 3:16, that my GOD loved me so much, that He took His only begotten Son, and sacrificed Him for me and your sin-leavened self! You should be saying, I LOVE YOU, MY GOD, AND FATHER, MY PROVIDER! We should be casting our affection onto the Son of GOD, who was obedient unto death, even the death of the cross, so we as wretches could be brought back to the One who loved us before the foundation of the world. He knows to whom He has set his affection upon, and that is me and you! Come on, it clearly states that while we yet sinners, the Father demonstrated His Love towards us and sent the Son to die for us! Check your love walk and set your affection on things above! Not the guy or girl that is prone to fail you, the car that will eventually be in the junk yard, or the house that is going to need a new roof and eventually be renovated!
